HOW VALUABLE ARE OUR LIVES?
I remember watching Groucho Marx's TV Series, "YOU BET YOUR LIFE" ......and wondered 'why is it called this?'. I hear people, hyperbolically, exclaiming, "This is to die/KILL for!", "I'm/She's/He's dying to go/hear/see/do"....something or another....; "I'm dying to go!"; "That jacket's to die for!"......Likewise, it is common to hear "I'd kill for a ticket to that concert!"; "That hat is a killer!"; 'a game's killer blow'...... What's our colloquial language expressing about dying and killing?
