SUBJECTIVE INTERPRETATION OF SILVER NITRATE HARD-WIRED NOSTALGIA, COLOUR-DESATURATED TO ECONOMIZE SYNAPTICAL STORAGE
Although I cannot remember the exact date that this photograph was taken....(printing info seen at bottom....from the obverse side of the original 'color' photo....before conversion to b/w and SX-70 format, later) I DO remember the sequence of events during the day that the photo was made..... Which signifies that 'that day' was traumatic enough to be indelibly filed away in some mental 'room' where it is connected by millions of neural pathways to today's 'me', still emeshed in the quagmires of past emotions.....Having spent a couple of days at Les Rencountres Naturelle, my cabin in Rabun Gap, I made the decision to attend a reunion of old friends at a Univ. of Ga's professor's home, just a few miles away....Cheryl Lowe Ferguson Ransijn, her mother...'Bird', her daughters...Lillian and Anneke and three of their friends, Bird's best friend, Cathy, and Bird's sons, John Wharton Lowe and Steven Lowe and his wife, Lois as well as John's wife's old friend and once roommate, Joyce Schultz .....would be spending the weekend at the house......The Photograph appears to be a posed group of friends......However, that is but a superficial observation that anyone would make...who was unfamiliar with the dynamics of the individuals' interactions and emotional contagions that were precursors of this 1/60th of a second exposure..... extramarital sex, pubescent girls' longing for the attentions of 'older' boys, a diagnosis of breast cancer, long-suppressed hostilities...a battle to the death auction bridge game, sleep-walking, 'porch swing' confessions and a petulant 'storming off' premature departure.....None of which 'show' in this 'look at the birdie' photograph......I think of Hermione and Maurice's duet in the 1958 movie, "GIGI"..... 'I REMEMBER IT WELL'......

we met at eight,
I was on time,
no, you were late
